Vail Daily letter: Super event
Last week, we had the privilege and pleasure of flying for you at the Vail Wings and Wheels Airshow at the Eagle County Airport. As professional airshow pilots, we have the opportunity to perform all over the country at venues large and small, and we wanted to say a special thank you to the folks that made this event our No. 1 event of the year.
The Eagle County airport is an incredible asset for the community and no one appreciates airports more than we do. Asking a major facility to shut down, even for just 90 minutes, is an incredible request but airport director Greg Phillips and his staff made it happen. They helped develop the show, coordinated the airport resources and were on hand throughout the event making sure our every need, from airport rescue to security and safety, was covered. Thanks Greg and everyone on your team.
Our special thanks go to Paul Gordon, Jamie Roosa and all the fabulous men and women at the Vail Valley Jet Center. Jamie and Emily came to us last December, explained what they wanted to do and quite simply made it happen. Besides doing their everyday jobs at the jet center, Paul and his staff built on to the Wings and Wheels show adding our aerobatic performances. While that might sound simple, adding the aerobatics added an entirely new and different set of FAA regulations and requirements. The number of additional hours involved was a full-time job on top of everything else they do.
To say the show went off without a hitch doesn’t do it justice. The men and women at the Jet Center were there for us every minute when every minute counted. We were putting on a one-hour show with almost no time between acts. In the space of eight minutes and 45 seconds, we serviced the Stearman, the big white and red biplane, and Gary was back in the air. A Nascar pit crew would have been put to shame. To all of you at the Jet Center, thank you!
We had a fabulous weekend and we hope all who joined as for the 2013 Vail Wheels and Wings show did as well … and we hope you’ll tell your friends, because 2014 will be even better.
