Vail Daily letter: Thank you for your support
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the following local businesses for all their hard work in helping to raise funds for the Vail Veterans Program over the Memorial Day weekend:
• Speckled Hound Racing — Valor Memorial Day Run.
• Vail Brewing Co.
• Beaver Creek Microbrew Festival.
• The Bunkhouse.
We are also grateful to all the volunteers including members of the VFW Post 10721 that supported the events and to all those that gave a donation. Even though the Memorial Day weekend has passed let us not forget the sacrifices of those that have served and continue to serve our country.
First Lt. Melissa Stockwell is a U.S. Army veteran, a three-time world champion paratriathlete and ambassador of the Vail Veterans Program. Stockwell was serving in Iraq in 2004, when a roadside bomb took out her Humvee which resulted in the loss of her left leg. She shared her thoughts on Memorial Day: “I think of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice every day, but Memorial Day is a special day to reflect, remember and give thanks to those that never made it back. It’s also a day to remember their families who have sacrificed for our freedom as well. I hope the rest of America puts up their American flag and flies it high and proud to show the world that we will never forget a soldier’s sacrifice.”
The Vail Veterans Program would like to thank our community for the support that has been given to our organization since 2004. We have positively affected the lives of approximately 650 wounded warriors and more than 1,000 family members from across the nation. The Vail Valley holds a special place in their hearts, as it is a place of healing for them.
