Vail Daily letter: Thanks for the help with races
At 8 a.m. on Memorial Day, the inaugural Vail Valor Races, presented by The UPS Store, kicked off its first two events: the Scott half-marathon and the Wells Fargo 5-mile run/walk. The Coleman Outdoors Family Run started a half hour later at 8:30.
As longtime locals and athletes, it’s been a dream of ours to produce races in Eagle County and bring a distinctly personal element to running and biking events in the Vail Valley. With nearly 200 registrants and participants from 18 states, Monday’s turnout exceeded our expectations for a first year road race in Vail. And the weather was amazing!
In addition to our title and presenting sponsors, we want to thank our host hotel Manor Vail Lodge and and the local businesses that supported the event with with their dollars, in-kind donations and valuable time: A Secret Garden, Vail Racquet Club, Vail Athletic Club, Vail Integrative Medicine Group, The Fitz, Col Construction, ULF & Associates, Mark Donaldson Architects, AquaLogic, Cutting Edge Woodworking, Scott McClarrinon Photography, Sneak Peak, Vail Honey Wagon, VistaMap, and West Vail Conoco. Our appreciation as well to local producers Highline, Vail Rec District, and Vail Valley Foundation for lending support to a new colleague.
We couldn’t have done it without you or our loyal core of friends who brought brains and brawn to every task we challenged them with over a two-day timespan, from hanging banners to putting signs on course, to transporting volunteers and directing traffic to working aid stations. Special thanks and gratitude most of all to the Vail Veterans Program for being our charitable partner and reminding us on race day what Memorial Day is all about.
