Vail Daily letter: Van Beek for sheriff

It is election time, and I am beginning to realize how old I really am.

I can remember a time when the political candidates advertised how important it was to elect them because of their abilities, talents, etc. They didn’t have to spend any time (or money) telling everyone how poor their opponent was with innuendos, half-truths, and maybe even some outright lies.

Sadly, over the years, state and national candidates have changed all that. There was a time during my almost 40 years in Eagle County when local candidates extolled their own merits without even mentioning their opponents. Sadly now, it seems that Officer Harvey has chosen to fall into the pattern of the state and national candidates.

To me, this implies that Officer Harvey does not feel strong enough about his own abilities and thus has to lower himself to this style of campaigning. Very sad indeed.

I for one am voting for James Van Beek as he has never run negative campaign ads and never will. A man true to his word. One of us, not just a politician.
