Vail Daily letter: Van Beek for sheriff
I’m writing this letter for not only a former co-worker but a forever friend, James van Beek. James and I have known each other for over 10 years.
I first met James when I started with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office. I remember James as a great leader and teacher. He and I went on many calls together and he always demonstrated respect for people and had great knowledge of the job. I remember James taking pride in community policing, having respect for the people he served and being able to solve problems with fairness to all involved. James was always a deputy I looked up to, respected and asked questions to when I needed help. As your sheriff, James will listen to what the community wants, he will fight for your rights and enforce the law in fairness. He will use his skills of over 20 years in law enforcement to great use. Having served both locally and overseas gives him a great advantage of dealing with many different cultures. He is well educated, well traveled and very loyal to Eagle County.
In the years working with James we also became friends — such good friends he and Carrie were invited to my wedding this past April. The van Beek family has always made me feel like part of their family. I used to live in Eagle County right across the street from the van Beek family. They took me in as a daughter. I was living on my own and my family all lived back in Connecticut. I got to know James on a personal level. I saw him provide for his family, teach his boys about hard work, lead by example and support them in all they do.
James is your perfect candidate for Sheriff. He will be a strong fair leader who has an extensive knowledge of both law enforcement and Eagle County.
