Vail Daily letter: We need your help

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to support the Starting Hearts program. This is a program designed to train virtually everyone in our community to effectively intervene in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest. Using basic CPR and an AED (automated external defibrillator), you can save a life.

The Starting Hearts organization is an idea borne out of a near-tragedy and sustained by a belief that with proper training and a basic life-saving machine, one person can make a difference. Saving a life is in itself a life-changing experience, not only for the patient who recovers, but for their family, friends and, yes, even the person who is fortunate enough to be there at the right time with the right training and support.

Starting Hearts seeks to provide outreach trainings to students, parents and the public. Using a converted bus and volunteer instructors, Starting Hearts is promoting its Call, Push and Shock, Nearest AED and Neighbor Saver programs throughout Eagle County and into the surrounding region.

Utilizing these programs, Starting Hearts expects to increase the survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest dramatically. By improving awareness, increasing training opportunities and raising funds for AED’s, Starting Hearts is making a difference.

Your assistance in whatever form will turn “Starting Hearts” into “Sustaining Hearts.” It is just that simple. Without your support, financial or otherwise, this valuable and necessary program to educate, train and supply our community with the tools it needs to save lives cannot sustain its good works. Starting Hearts needs your help. Please contribute what you can to make a tangible and very real difference in your community, in your life and, most importantly, in the lives of those you love.

Educate, donate and participate!
