Vail Daily letter: Why must we pay for it?

Personally, I find abortion tragic, abhorrent and reprehensible; particularly so later in the pregnancy. Isn’t three months enough time to decide if you want to continue the pregnancy? That being said, the Supreme Court has somehow found a non-existent right to privacy in the Constitution. They have further extrapolated that right to privacy into the right to abortion. So it’s the law. It’s your choice. It’s your body. I have to live with it. Fine, but why do I have to pay for it? Has SCOTUS found another imaginary caveat in the Constitution that mandates we subsidize this activity? How do you justify half a billion dollars in taxpayer funds going to Planned Parenthood?

Abort away, if you must, but at least do it on your own dime! If Planned Parenthood is truly a worthwhile organization and not the ghoulish ogres we see on videotape, then they can raise funding through contributions as legions of other organizations do.

Equally disturbing is the fact that Planned Parenthood makes political contributions to the same politicians who then vote for taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. What do you call that? Kickbacks? Money laundering? Perhaps both? Where is the fabled “transparency” when we sorely need it?

And as far as the purported efforts of Planned Parenthood on other women’s health issues such as breast cancer? Yeah, right! When I think of breast cancer my mind immediately races to Planned Parenthood, not Susan B. Komen. Sure it does! Even if Planned Parenthood does devote 5 percent or 10 percent of its resources to efforts outside of its abortion mill efforts, my response is that Hitler was kind to his dog.
