Vail Daily letter: ‘Yes’ on Edwards sales tax
I’m writing in regards to the upcoming ballot issues in Edwards. With leadership from the Edwards Metro District, community groups and Eagle County, Edwards is anticipating its infrastructure needs for sustained growth from now through 2040. Focus is specifically on the road from I-70 to Highway 6 (known locally as the Edwards Access Road), the four-way intersection at Highway 6 and improvements along West Highway 6 to Squaw Creek Road, including the intersections of Lake Creek Road and Hill Crest Drive .
I am in favor of Ballot Initiative 5A as it addresses not only road and traffic needs, but also those of pedestrians and cyclists and the aesthetic landscaping of the proje ct. These are all factors that make Edwards a desirable community in which to live, work and play.
The proposed improvements need to be made in order to replace old infrastructure and prepare for continued growth in Edwards. We have an opportunity to unlock federal and county funds for the betterment of our community — money that would fund 90 percent of the project. Why wouldn’t we do that?
Please vote “yes” on 5A.
