Vail Daily letter: ‘Yes’ on Issue 2A

When do Avon citizens and visitors get something amazing for the same property taxes? This Nov. 5 when we vote for the expansion of the Avon Recreation Center and other needed improvements such as a new Nottingham Park playground and (finally!) restroom improvements.

Here is how it works — our property taxes today cover a bond debt that has been used to pay for Avon Road improvements over the past 15 or so years. That debt is ending and with low interest rates for municipal bonds, the council is asking us to consider extending the very same property tax to pay for these amazing improvements to the Rec Center and our Nottingham Park. Yes, there could be a very slight increase as final planning is done, but that is like pennies over $2 per month depending on the value of your home.

Did you know the money will be used to replace the 20-year old waterslide, build a climbing wall and construct a multi-purpose field house for basketball and many other sport and community activities? The list goes on. Never have I seen an opportunity to do so much with the same taxes.

With interest rates for borrowing very low, the beautiful upgrading of east Avon and an improving economy, isn’t it Avon’s time to move forward on our plans for better recreational offerings in a remarkable park?

Vote “yes” by sending in your ballot by Nov. 5 — Ballot Issue 2A is a winner.
