Vail Daily letter: ‘Yes’ to tax proposals
I watch the evening news and appreciate how fortunate we are here in the West to not have to live with the corruption that seems endemic in other societies. One specific area where we and our government daily interact is with our police force. We’re fortunate that we have honest police officers willing to work for what little we pay them. We’re fortunate we don’t live with a corrupt and menacing police presence in our daily lives like many people elsewhere in this world.
One of my reasons for writing today is to say “thank you” to all the men and women who daily risk their lives, families and sanity through that work. I’d also like to thank those people who serve in our political realm, people who watch over and provide the means and material so that our police can maintain themselves.
A second reason for writing is to ask each and every one reading this to please vote for the current tax proposals that fund our ambulance district and our fire department. I am supporting these proposals as one way to put my money where my mouth is (it’s easy to write a letter to say “thanks”). Supporting our fire department and our ambulance crews through these proposals is one way to provide the back-up and support our police officers need each and every time they venture out, most often alone, from the safety of the police station.
There is also an added benefit for ourselves and those we love when we vote for these proposals. Disease, dismemberment and death await us all. For a few dollars a year these proposals will help ensure that, when we call, the very best crews and equipment will arrive in a timely manner.
