OK, here are the facts about discount liquor in relation to the store going in at Traer Creek Plaza in Avon: Will not happen. The biggest liquor store in Colorado does about $52 million to be able to discount SOME items. If you take every store from East Vail to Gypsum the total sales are around $20 million. The stores in Denver and other large population areas pay 75 percent less on average in rent, employeesand other business costs.
The new liquor store is paying around $50 per square foot (talk about greed, Magnus). This means he will have to run higher margins than any other store just to pay the $20,000 a month rent!
Now lets talk gas ” there will be no discount gas. There is no money in selling gas,if there was we would have had one already! To the guy who says high costs out here are a bunch of baloney, you are a complete idiot! Everything costs more out here, and it’s a fair trade-out for how we get to live here.
Someone should call Wal-Mart (the biggest discount store in the U.S.) and ask them why they are sending experts to figure out why they aren’t making money and keeping employees. The day this valley has discount stores is the day we have too many people living here.
What were you guys thinking?
The truth be told, I’ve basically stopped reading the Vail Daily because it’s become a forum for whiners and complainers. However, Sunday evening I happened to have a free moment and a Friday Vail Daily at hand, so I flipped through it.
You could have knocked me over with a feather when I saw that “Ye Olde Publisher” has an article in the Vail Daily. I personally subscribe to the philosphy if you give someone enough rope they’ll hang themselves. So, why don’t you just let him spin his own fantasy on his dime in his own rag?
Yeah, Yeah, I know first amendment yadda, yadda, yadda, blah, blah, blah.
I’m thinking to myself, what does this columnist bring to the table? Notoriety, he’s certainly notorious. Objectivity, not. Knowledge and sensitivy, no. I’m baffled.
I’m trying to understand why you would want this diatribe. You guys must be looking for columnists? I bet if you approached the School District or some other pool of “untainted” thinkers you could get some real journalism from a creative mind with no personal agenda attached. Perhaps a writing competition would be a step in the right direction?
I for one do not care to give Caccioppo an open forum to grind his axe. Of course, that’s just me! My guess is, he’s not going to sell newspapers for you. Yup, I know they’re free, you won’t be able to give them away! Think of your advertisers! Think about it!
