Vail Daily letter: Affiliation deadline nears
Voters have until Jan. 4 to register to vote in the Democratic or Republican caucuses. To affiliate with a political party, check the accuracy of your registration or update it go to http://www.govotecolorado.com.
Since Colorado has a closed caucus system you must affiliate with a party in order to vote for your preferred candidate in your precinct caucus on March 1. The caucus is the “grass roots” of the Colorado election system. At the caucus you may become a delegate to the county assembly to be held by March 26.
From there it is possible to go on to the state convention in Denver and to your party’s national convention. The process can determine who will be your party’s nominee for president in 2016.
For those of you who are appalled at the Republican frontrunners, I would like to suggest registering or changing your registration to Democrat, attending your caucus and voicing your support for Sen. Bernie Sanders, Secretary Hillary Clinton or Gov. Martin O’Malley.
Start a dialogue, stay on topic and be civil.
