Vail Daily letter: Asking for your vote

My name is Robinette Hoppin and I am running for Eagle County School Board. I wanted to take this opportunity to share my views as to how I can best serve our kids in this community.

Two years ago, I joined the district accountability committee so I could become more informed on all the schools within our district. Before that I was on many committees at Red Hill Elementary for eight years, and I am currently on many committees at Gypsum Creek Middle school where both my sons currently attend. By serving on district accountability committee, I have become very aware of Dr. Glass’ vision for our school district and I am a big supporter. A few things I would like to see if I was elected to the school board is higher retention and better recruitment for our teachers, as well as better communication between our administration, teachers and board members. I would like to see improved ways on how to reach out to our entire community. We are going to have some very difficult decisions to make in the near future with regards to probable budget cuts and some buildings in our district that are in dire need of some help. I believe I am that person to help with these issues through fiscally responsible decisions and budget transparency.

I am running for Eagle County School Board District E. My opponents are Kevin Kottenstette and Carrie Larson. I believe my experience, along with my communication skills and deep commitment to making schools better would serve our community well, so I am asking for your support.
