Vail Daily letter: Asking for your vote

My name is Felicia Battle and I am running for the school board because I am committed to the success of Eagle County students and care about our valleywide community. I have lived in Eagle County for almost 20 years. My two children attend Eagle Valley Middle School and I currently serve on the Eagle County School District Board of Education.

I directly experience and understand the needs of our students and teachers. As a parent and volunteer, I have served as Brush Creek Elementary School PTA president, Eagle Valley Middle School PTA member, Education Foundation of Eagle County founder and trustee, and I also served on my neighborhood homeowners association board of directors. Through my volunteer and community work, I established relationships with parents, teachers, principals, students and community leaders. I enjoy working in collaborative ways to expand students’ experiences and provide new opportunities for learning.

I believe my role as a school board member is to make decisions based on analysis, to balance needs and concerns, and have the ability to see the long-term implications of an action. I am an accountant working with diverse businesses in Eagle County and was a director of finance with Marriott International overseeing large financial operations. I bring this financial background to my role as a board member.

Our district affords our students, through rigorous academic programming, a well-rounded education. Our community and our board must ensure we continue to do so. I am open and excited to listen to and express the community voice.

I would like to continue utilizing my time, skills and experience to make a difference in the lives of all of our young people. In this endeavor, I ask for your vote and thank you for your support.
