Vail Daily letter: Ceasing operations
September 20, 2016
Dear swim parents,
With deep sadness, I want to be the first to inform you that the Vail Swim School and Vail Hurricanes Swim Team will be ceasing operations effective immediately and will not be starting our September session. After 15 years of serving the Vail Valley community, the town of Avon has left us no option but to end our operations.
This comes as a big surprise to all of us. The town of Avon will no longer allow Vail Swim School the use of the rec center pool and there are no other pools available at this time of year. The town of Avon initiated a pricing study several months ago that recently morphed into a request for proposal. A large amount of proprietary information was requested. We provided that information and affirmed our willingness to operate under the town's terms, in an effort to continue top quality swim lessons to families like you. The town has decided to provide services themselves ("in house") and denied us the ability to continue our programs. I am very shocked, disappointed and frustrated. In retrospect, I fear the only goal of this request for proposal process was to gain as much information as possible for Avon take over the Vail Swim School programs.
Thank you for the trust you have bestowed in our program and instructors over the last 15 years of service to the valley. My fondest memories stem from the pride I've witnessed on your child's face and the faces of over a thousand children in the valley as they learn the lifelong and lifesaving skill of swimming. As children progressed through our program, they not only gained physical strength and skills but learned perseverance, dedication and resilience. I'm grateful to all of the talented coaches and instructors that have delivered quality instruction, alongside a spotless safety record, over the years.
I wish nothing but the best for you and your children and hope that a high quality, sustainable, instructional swim program is delivered to you over the years to come.
For those of you who have already paid and your check was cashed, a refund is already in the mail. If your check has not been cashed, we will shred it.
