Vail Daily letter: Fantastic championships
Thank you Vail Valley Foundation, Vail Resorts and the town of Vail. You reset the bar for the Alpine World Ski Championships and for the beautifully choreographed community participation.
Thank you, too, for:
• A system of 2,200 volunteers who welcomed, assisted and moved us on with warmth. They were fabulous and friendly ambassadors.
• A spectacular Red Tail Stadium provided free seating. A spectacular race course showcased all teams and the chorus of cheers was strong for every country’s team
Photography which was shooting at 3,000 frames per second and converting HD for TV nationally and internationally bringing Vail/Beaver Creek to the world. Brilliant and clear coverage which put each spectator on the course, and announcers who made you feel it.
A security system which involved “towns, county and state, a growing ski company, federal agencies and countless others moving” toward a single goal.
A transportation system which defied our expectations and got us there and home.
An Organizing Committee who brought the Alpine World Ski Championships to Vail and made it appear to be seamless.
Solaris and all of the businesses there, who generously and graciously hosted the awards ceremonies.
Fireworks punctuated each evening’s gatherings . Faces turned skyward, the child in us each was rewarded with the play of light across the night.
The past two weeks me so very proud.
