Vail Daily letter: Giving back

Salvation Army's Red Kettle Bell Ringing Campaign raised $52,700 between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve 2015! The 2014 collection for the same period was $43,700.

The bell ringing campaign was focused at local grocery stores and Walmart. The management of the three City Market stores, Safeway, Walmart and Edwards Village Market are always instrumental in supporting this project.

There were over 540 volunteers ringing bells throughout the Vail Valley over the holiday period. Over 1,080 hours of bell ringing occurred during this period. More people came out to help support Salvation Army Vail than ever before, according to our records. We had amazing involvement from the community! School children and administrators, local businesses, nonprofits, the hospitality community, Vail Resorts and its affiliates, Eagle, Edwards and Vail Rotary Clubs, the private mountain clubs, Realtors, government entities, youth programs, fire and police departments and community service volunteers were all committed to have a successful fund raising effort.

The temperatures were at times challenging to stand out and ring the bells for Salvation Army, as we had a cold December. Two hours of bell ringing standing outside in the cold was a challenge.

The funds collected during this campaign will support the many efforts of Salvation Army Vail including the two local food banks and the many excellent services and programs Salvation Army provide in the valley's most needy population.

The Vail Valley community has a tradition of giving back to the community where we live. This tradition of commitment continues to be evident in the Red Kettle Bell Ringing campaign in 2015.
