Vail Daily letter: Great fund-raiser
July 7, 2015
During the 50-year history of Vail Valley Medical Center, the locals and second-home owners of Eagle County have consistently stepped forward to support their nonprofit community hospital — and notably Shaw Regional Cancer Center. It was heart-warming and reassuring to join 165 guests for an evening at Splendido on June 28 to give back once again at the first-year fundraising event, Flavours.
Just as inspiring as the turnout were the efforts of the volunteers who organized the event, especially its co-chairs Ann Rothkopf and Barbara Benson, along with the Shaw Outreach Team, which supports the patients and programs of Shaw Regional Cancer Center and Jack's Place.
Thanks to gourmet hors d'oeuvres by Chef David Walford of Splendido, fine wines, French champagne and cocktails, Flavours was an extraordinary party with a special purpose. Funds were raised through sponsorships, ticket sales and an incredible auction with packages including chef dinner baskets from local culinary artists of Vail Catering Concepts, Vin 48 and Zino, as well as luxury lodging in Prague, Vienna, Italy, New Zealand and Sonoma Wine Country.
The proceeds raised by Flavours will benefit the endowment fund for Jack's Place, a cancer caring lodge that provides complimentary lodging for patients and their caregivers while receiving treatment at Shaw. The Shaw Outreach Team's goal for the endowment fund is to allow Jack's Place to continue providing free lodging in perpetuity.
Thank you again to Ann, Barbara and the members of the Shaw Outreach Team for their vision, creativity and hard work to make this event possible; to David Walford and Splendido for generously hosting; to the event sponsors, who gave so graciously; to the more than 165 guests who attended Flavours; and to Lisa Middlebrook and the VVMC Foundation staff, who provided support.
Jack's Place provides a remarkable service to our cancer patients and their families who travel long distances to receive treatment at Shaw. Heartfelt thanks again to everyone involved in Flavours for helping our patients and their families find respite and comfort now and into the future.
