Vail Daily letter: Jim Palermo’s legacy

After nearly three years of exemplary service to Bravo! Vail and our community, Jim Palermo recently announced his plans to pursue other professional interests.

During his all too brief tenure as president and executive director, Jim took on the daunting task of navigating the transition from an organization shaped and formed by a founding executive director to one that is more strategic and sustainable. Such a transition demands change on the part of the board, staff and long-term supporters to be successful. Jim was unflinching in his drive to make Bravo! Vail the best it could be.

As noted in his board-approved performance review, Jim’s major accomplishments include:

• Setting records for attendance, revenue and operating surplus.

• Attaining higher standards of artistic excellence.

• Bringing high quality music to a broader audience, by making program changes, developing alternative venues and offering a broad array of free concerts throughout the valley.

• Leading completion of an overdue strategic plan and working with the board and staff to assure implementation.

• Added a high level marketing professional, working to develop loyalty programs, and adopting a data-centric approach to marketing and ticket sales in order to move the institution to the next level.

• Increased public relations reach through print and television media, initiated a new radio broadcast series with Colorado Public Radio, and revitalized media relationships.

• Expanded and fine-tuned education and community engagement programs, including a brand new series of nine free concerts at Vail Interfaith Chapel.

During his time in Vail, Jim not only raised Bravo! Vail to new levels, but he became a warm and welcome member of our community, working tirelessly to cultivate support for the Bravo! festival and constantly seeking ways for Bravo! to add value to our community. Jim’s contributions will be felt for years to come and his spirit and presence will be sorely missed.
