Vail Daily letter: Job well done
My congratulations and gratitude to the spectator services volunteer group of the 2015 World Ski Championships. Ably led by our intrepid coordinators Kirsten and Bill Zeller, this volunteer team was responsible for keeping all of our event guests, vendors, media, students, racers, coaches, staff, donors, distinguished visitors and fellow volunteers safe and sound, at every event venue, for two weeks straight! As a local pastor well acquainted with moving large groups of congregants quickly through small entrances and exits, I was constantly amazed at the dedicated and warm service our team provided in helping to move literally thousands of folks in and out of the venues multiple times every single day. Up early and out late, our team managed the skier/walker junction in front of Red Tail Stadium, and I consider it miraculous that not one stadium visitor was injured while traversing that extremely narrow intersection bisecting very fast skiers with thousands of guests. We received many compliments, for which I was grateful, and a few less than complimentary comments, the limited vocabulary of which reminded me of sailing or cheering at a high school football game. But no matter the moment, the weather, or the response, Kirsten, Bill, and my fellow team members modeled the charity, dignity and dedication which characterizes the best of our community. Thanks to each and every one!
