Vail Daily letter: New blood for Eagle-Vail

Property owners in Eagle-Vail have suffered a dues increase from $100 a few years ago to $335 now. These dues are not used for common area maintenance because the Eagle-Vail Metropolitan District owns the pool and golf course and Eagle County maintains the roads. I recently learned that the Eagle-Vail Property Owners' Association board was diverting tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Metro District to balance the budget of that unrelated entity. I don't know why dues, which are not tax deductible, are being used to maintain a separate government entity's assets. This appears to be a clear end run around TABOR that limits tax increases without voter approval. It is also unfair because the financial burden on the smaller home owners is greater. This needs to be stopped, but the current board members have refused to re-evaluate this practice. Therefore it is my hope that Eagle-Vail property owners will elect new board members that will work to put a stop to this practice. I encourage property owners to vote for new blood. Vote for Steve Daniels, Jake Jacobson and Judd Watts.
