Vail Daily letter: ‘No’ on 5A

Citizens of Eagle-Vail,

5A is debt accumulation run amok. It appears to be a descendant of Count Dracula. It keeps sucking your blood and it never dies. First we had 5A No. 1, then 5A No. 2, now 5A No. 3. When will it end? If it passes, what is the liability side of our balance sheet going to look like? Why such grandiose plans? Who is really going to benefit from this grandiosity?

Does this association have any acquaintance with the distinction between wants and real needs? Does it understand or even know of the existence of the virtues of prudence and temperance?

Proponents of 5A paint debt accumulation of this magnitude as a path to increased property values. Unless the law of demand has ceased to exist in Eagle-Vail, increasing the cost of home ownership will decrease demand and decrease property values from what they would otherwise be.

So, please, think long and hard about this vote. You might just be voting to pay now and later and later and later still.
