Vail Daily letter: Powderpuff game Saturday
October 6, 2016
I appreciate Mr. Doan's response (Letters to the Editor, Sept. 27) to my editorial. I would love to see the administration and staff from Eagle Valley High School come out and support this community event on Oct. 8.
We will be holding a Powderpuff football game on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Gypsum Sports Complex. I am excited about this event, as are many students, parents and members of the community. The positive response to this event has been overwhelming. I saw that Ms. Boyd's Vail Daily article from Sept. 23 was shared 284 times on Facebook. I have run into numerous people asking for specifics about this event. It has the potential to be a big day in Gypsum for a good cause.
We will be asking $2 for admission to this event. We will also be selling concessions and donating 100 percent of the proceeds to Shaw Cancer Center. This was decided on by the high school participants since the Powderpuff games are played by all females and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
There will be four games total and the championship game will be played at 3 p.m. The winner of the championship game will receive a baseball cap and a football trophy to be signed by members of the winning team. And, no, the outcome will not be rigged. May the best team win!
This is what I shared on the Powderpuff page of Facebook:
To all those attending this event, please keep in mind this is for fun and a community fundraiser for a good cause. Proceeds benefit Shaw Cancer Center (personal checks can be made payable to Shaw Cancer Center with memo "Powderpuff football game breast cancer fundraiser." Please send contributions to Vail Valley Medical Center Foundation, PO Box 1529; Vail, CO 81658). Good sportsmanship is expected and aggressive/dangerous/unsafe play and behavior will not be tolerated. Such behavior may/will result in ejection. Please help spread the word throughout the community about this event, and all participants in this event must sign a waiver and release of liability form or participation will not be allowed. Minors must have their parents sign off on this form and it must be brought to the event at or by 11 a.m. on Oct. 8. Failure to do so, again, will result in not participating. Game No. 1 kickoff will be on time at noon (between the freshmen and seniors, followed by the sophomores and juniors at 1 p.m. There will then be a consolation game played at 2 p.m. between the two losing teams, followed by the championship game between the two winning teams). Please be ready with the necessary paperwork, proper attire and team jerseys. Please wear tennis shoes on the turf field. We expect to leave the field better than we found it to show our gratitude for WECMRD allowing us usage of this field.
