Vail Daily letter: Remarkable event
Five years ago, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and Vail Valley Foundation made a commitment to the International Ski Federation to welcome the world to America and to the Vail Valley. For the past two weeks, athletes from 68 nations have experienced a remarkable World Championships. Fans around the globe were treated to stunning images of athletic achievement in a beautiful winter setting.
On behalf of the athletes, thanks to the Vail Valley Foundation. Under the leadership of Ceil Folz and Harry Frampton, your dreams came alive these past two weeks. Thanks to Vail Resorts, led by the vision of Rob Katz and John Garnsey. Your resorts provided the platform for the world to celebrate alpine ski racing.
Most of all, thank you to the 2,000 smiling volunteers and the entire Vail Valley community. You welcomed the world in a very inviting fashion and made everyone’s stay there memorable.
As a team, we share your pride in being able to showcase our four medalists: Travis Ganong, Ted Ligety, Mikaela Shiffrin and Lindsey Vonn. The national broadcast and media images of their success will motivate a new generation of alpine ski racers.
Congratulations on a job well done.
President and CEO, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association
