Vail Daily letter: Successful program
Food Rescue Express would like to thank everyone that helped to make our Food for Kids Backpack Program a success. Vail Mountain School fifth grade, thank you for your food drive. Flying Eagle Disc Society, thank you for your fundraiser and food drive. Also, thank you to Restaurant Kelly Liken and Foods of Vail for your generous donation of apples and oranges so that the kids could have fresh fruit, and a very special thank you to Brice, Amy, John and Barney from Vail Ski Patrol for helping to deliver the backpacks to the schools. Also, a very special thank you to Sam and Rebecca for helping to pack the backpacks. I could have not done it with out all of you helping. This school year was the biggest year in our six years, where we fed 2,924 kids, packed food and delivered to these very special kids 17,544 meals in 11 schools throughout the valley. We started in 2009 with one school and 50 kids and delivered 300 meals. It was a pilot program and has grown. The need is here and we at Food Rescue express will always take care of the kids who need our service.
