Vail Daily letter: Support the cause

Dear friends of the Vail Valley,

I am getting very excited about the upcoming Vail Vertical Express for Can Do MS on Saturday, Feb. 8, on Vail Mountain. This event was the mechanism that was started 30 years ago to support the organization my late husband, Jimmie Heuga, created and which is now called Can Do Multiple Sclerosis!

His organization has helped many thousands of people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, from all over the world, empowering them to lead healthier, active and fulfilling lives. For more information on this scientifically proven formula and the ongoing research, please go visit their website, mscando.org.

This year, we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Can Do MS and the 50th anniversary of Jimmie and Billy Kidd winning their Olympic medals, the first two American men to ever accomplish this.

I hope you will join me and my entire family, including our three boys, Wilder, Blaze and Winston, and my husband, Pat, along with Billy Kidd and Chris Anthony for all or some of the weekend events. Friday, Feb. 7 is an event open to all, whether you registered for Vertical Express or would like to learn more. Even if you’re not skiing, join us for the documentary film that was done on Jimmie’s life titled “Can Do: The Legacy of Jimmie Heuga.” It’s an amazing movie that details Jimmie’s journey from an Olympic athlete to completely revolutionizing the way people manage MS.

The Vertical Express ski event is on Saturday, Feb. 8, and we are going to take over Vail Mountain to honor Jimmie and raise important funds for his organization! I’m especially excited that at 3 p.m., Billy Kidd will lead the group down the Jimmie Heuga Express run, followed by the awards ceremony, where my son Winston and his band, Tenth Mountain Division, will entertain.

Please visit http://www.mscando.org/Vail to register and learn more.

I hope we will see all of our old and new supporters of this amazing organization for some or all of the events! If you can’t make it, I hope you will support the ongoing efforts of what Jimmie created 30 years ago!

From one proud mom and one avid supporter,

Debbie Heuga
