Vail Daily letter: Thanks for care
I had a skiing accident in some severe, flat light, on Yonder Dec. 21. I hit an unseen compression, got launched, and landed on the newly tuned edge of my ski. Thanks Buzz’s Ski Shop. The ski cut through the pants, lacerating my quad muscle and tendon. No offense Bode, but yours looked like a paper cut. I was bleeding quite a bit, but tried to put my ski on and ski to Chair 5. Not! I waited for someone, anyone, to come down Yonder to call Ski Patrol for me. I then remembered that my daughter, Sunny, a patroller, loaded EpicMix on my phone two years ago for such an occasion. Everyone needs to load this app if they ski Vail or BC. Simply touch the ski patrol icon in the upper right corner and the call goes directly to PHQ. I called and they sent three guys immediately.
When I saw two black jackets and one red jacket skiing down Yonder, I was somewhat anxious. Black jackets signify a rookie. Boy was I wrong to worry. I want to thank Alex McCaffrey, the veteran, and Adam and Jed, the rookies. They all were professional and got me out of there ASAP.
I also want to thank the EMT, Graham Kane and the whole ER crew at Vail Valley Medical Center, especially Dr. Joseph for sewing me back together. We are so lucky to have these professionals take care of us when needed. Don’t take what they do for granted.
