Vail Daily letter: Vote for Hammon
Democrats in Eagle County are fortunate to have a choice between two candidates in the June primary election for Sara Fisher’s (term limited) seat on the Board of Commissioners. Ballots will be mailed out on June 4. All Democrats in the county are eligible to vote in this primary to determine the candidate who will run for election in November.
For me, Pat Hammon’s breadth of experience and knowledge of Eagle County eminently qualifies her to assume the commissioner’s duties without a significant learning curve. A majority of the issues requiring action by the county commissioners involve land use. Pat was on the Eagle County Planning Commission for 13 years and chair of that body for nine years. During that time she was an advocate for smart, clean and sustainable growth. No doubt she will continue to stress those values and county commissioner.
Pat’s life has been about service whether as an army nurse in Vietnam, a hospice nurse, serving on the Medical Advisory Committee and working at Roundup River Ranch, advocating for veterans or providing input on the advisory board of the Castle Peak Senior Living Center. Pat bases her decisions on all the available evidence and is, therefore, a proponent of early childhood education. She considers it critical to having a well educated citizenry.

When elected in November, Pat wants to enhance communication with citizens and citizen groups through commissioner newsletters via the Internet and newspapers. It is her intention to hold frequent town halls and have office hours in communities throughout the county including the Roaring Fork Valley.
Most importantly, I believe we can trust Pat to listen to the needs of the community. She will have my vote in the coming primary election.
