Vail Daily letter: ‘No’ on 1A
I am not against assistance to working people in Eagle County to help them find a reasonable place to live in this wonderful place. I came here in 1990 and rented for 10 years, double jobbed it, working ridiculous hours driving Vans to Vail while also trying to get established in business. I am against creating a housing advisory council and giving it $100 million-plus tax dollars over the next 20 years without any real plan. It is not even clear who really has the authority and makes the decisions about what land might be bought, where or who decides who gets down payment assistance (gift or loan?), etc. Is it the council or is it the County Commissioners or someone else? Give us a real plan to vote on. Do we buy land and build? Do we just give people down payment money or loan it to them, on what property, where? Vote against this 1A. A great idea but no plan. Come on, man, get real!
