There were 31 winter sports athletes with ties to Eagle County or Ski and Snowboard Club Vail who were nominated to various U.S. Ski and Snowboard Rosters after the national governing body’s annual spring congress last week.

U.S. Ski and Snowboard announced nominations for Alpine, cross-country, freeski, freestyle, Nordic Combined, para Alpine, ski jumping, snowboard and para snowboard rosters in a press release on May 15. Athletes are formally nominated to the team in May. Pending their acceptance of the nomination and adherence to the team expectations outlined in team criteria, athletes will be officially announced to the team in September.

Headlining the Alpine nominations are Lindsey Vonn, Mikaela Shiffrin and River Radamus. Vonn, who lists Ski and Snowboard Club Vail as her club, experienced great success in her comeback season after retiring from the World Cup in 2019. In her second World Cup start of the year, the 40-year-old placed sixth in the downhill in St. Anton, Austria. She was fourth in the super-G the next day and went on to earn a second-place finish at the World Cup Finals super-G in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Mikaela Shiffrin was injured much of the season, but still achieved a milestone 100th-career World Cup win and a world championship gold medal with teammate Breezy Johnson. River Radamus finished 12th in the GS standings this season and also won a title on his childhood hill this spring as SSCV and Vail Resorts hosted the U.S. Alpine national championships.

Ski and Snowboard Club Vail continues to supply a high proportion of the country’s female mogul team and has grown notably on the snowboard slopestyle squad as well.

World Championship dual moguls silver medalist Tess Johnson is coming off her best season ever, having claimed her first World Cup win in seven years en route to a third-place finish in the overall moguls standings. She’ll be joined by 2022 Olympian Kai Owens and Elizabeth Lemley, who had her season cut short by an injury prior to the World Cup opener in Ruka. Veteran Dylan Walczyk is on the men’s team and newcomer Abby McLarnon made the D Team.

McLarnon took bronze at the 2025 FIS Junior World Championships in dual moguls and also nabbed a pair of podiums at the U.S. championships this spring. SSCV’s Reese Chapdelaine and Jiah Cohen also won dual moguls mixed team gold at junior worlds and Chapdelaine was the silver medalist in the women’s dual moguls as well. Freddy Mooney’s program was unsurprisingly named the 2025 Freestyle Club of the Year by U.S. Ski and Snowboard at the congress.

Meanwhile, freeski and snowboard program director Chris Laske has eight athletes between slopestyle and park and pipe on the U.S. Ski Team, including World Championship medalist Ollie Martin, who is ranked fifth in the world right now on the latest World Snowboard Points List (WSPL). The 16-year-old claimed his first World Cup win in Calgary in February and won bronze in both the big air and the slopestyle at the FIS Snowboard World Championships in Engadin, Switzerland at the end of March.
