Anxious Dawkins hopes for fast return to Broncos
The Denver Post
Think it was tough watching the Broncos’ first preseason game on television Friday?
Imagine being Brian Dawkins.
Sidelined with a broken hand, the Broncos safety didn’t travel to San Francisco with the team and watched the game solo in his home. His wife and four children knew better than to bother him as he slipped into “game mode” while watching his new teammates play for the first time.
“Brutal. I was all over the place emotionally,” Dawkins said. “I start getting hyped and amped up. I’m not very good company.”
Dawkins took a major step in the recovery from the hand injury suffered Aug. 4 when he returned to practice Sunday afternoon. He was sporting a round, club-like cast on his right hand, and he was wearing an orange “no-contact” jersey.
Dawkins moved right back into his spot with the first-team defense for the two-hour practice. He is still getting used to playing with the cast, and jokingly blamed the bulky club for his failure to make an interception in an 11-on-11 drill.
