Austria’s Hirscher rolls to GS win
BEAVER CREEK — The four-time defending World Cup champ left no doubt on Sunday during the Birds of Prey giant slalom at Beaver Creek.
Marcel Hirscher led after the first run and simply increased his lead on his way to his 15th World Cup giant-slalom win and hist 33rd career victory with a combined time of 2 minutes, 32.58 seconds.
France’s Victor Muffat-Jeandet finished second 0.98 seconds behind the Austrian, followed by Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen a distant 1.31 seconds back.
With the win, Hirscher moved into second place in the overall World Cup points with 260. The Austrian trails only Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal (317) in the standings, which is likely just fine for the technical specialist. Four of the six races so far in the men’s World Cup season have been speed with only two giant slaloms. Hirscher still has yet to compete in slalom this year.
