SCHLADMING, Austria ” Mario Matt of Austria won a World Cup night slalom Tuesday, overcoming a rain-slogged course for his 10th career victory.

The 28-year-old Matt, who was second after the first run, won in a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 41.08 seconds in front of a crowd of 50,000 on the Planai course.

Jean-Baptiste Grange of France, who had won three straight World Cup slaloms, finished second, 0.64 seconds behind. Manfred Moelgg of Italy, the first-run leader, lost time because of an error before the finish and took third.



American Ted Ligety, who was 11th after the opening run, had a fast second heat to finish fourth.

Overall World Cup leader Benjamin Raich was eighth, 1.63 seconds behind the winner.
