Avalanche playoff tickets are being offered for pre-sale and Hockey-Reference.com computes the Avs have a 77.5 percent chance of making the postseason based on 1,000 computer simulations.

But the fact remains that Colorado enters Tuesday night’s game against Edmonton with no ability to clinch a playoff spot until Thursday at the earliest. It  needs to continue to build on its eight-game points streak (6-0-2) to ensure it will advance to the Stanley Cup Playoff for the second year in a row.

The Avs (86 points) enter Tuesday’s game against visiting Edmonton two points ahead of Arizona (84) for the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot. While Colorado hosts the Oilers, who were eliminated from the playoffs Monday, the Coyotes (84) host the Western Conference’s last-place team, the Los Angeles Kings.

If the Avs beat the Oilers and the Coyotes lose to the Kings, Colorado would enter Thursday’s home game against Winnipeg needing a point to clinch a playoff spot.

Colorado concludes the regular season Saturday at the San Jose Sharks, who will finish as the Pacific Division’s No. 2 seed and play the No. 3 Vegas Golden Knights in the first round.
