Avon hopes to hook kids on fishing

With Wal-Mart offering deals on fishing supplies and the state of Colorado waiving the need for fishing licenses, more than 100 parents and children attended the free event.

“It’s to introduce kids into fishing,” Avon Adult Programs Coordinator Mike Mullins said. “Wal-Mart’s been doing a lot to get a national event going. They helped us a lot.”

Chris Kelter won first place by catching a rainbow trout measuring 20 inches. Collin Idzvowkski took second place with a fish that measured 17 inches. The third largest fish prize went to Zane Hensel for bringing in a trout measuring 16 inches. Britney Jackson and Kylie Alexander won a prize for catching the most fish, 11 in total.
