Battle Mountain boys alpine team wins at Loveland

LOVELAND ” The Battle Mountain alpine team continued to build momentum for the state meet last Saturday in Loveland.

The Huskies won the boys’ competition and also made a strong showing on the girls’ side.

Cannon O’Brien paced the boys with a third-place finish in a combined time of 1 minute, 21.07 seconds. Zach Ziolkowski (1:22.04) took fourth for Battle Mountain.



The Huskies’ Ike Sheppard helped Battle Mountain to the title after finishing in 14th place. Sheppard’s time of 1:26.58 added another 47 points to the Huskies’ team score.

Kyle Poisson (34th), Mike Harland (35th), Jacob Bishop (36th), Luke Rasmussen (43rd), Patrick Perry (48th) and Colby Childers (50th) all finished in the top 50 for Battle Mountain.

Eagle Valley took seventh in the team standings. Matt Cohen paced the Devils in 28th place with a combined time of 1:34.21. Zach Bailey (38th) and Cody Coulter (42nd) weren’t far behind.

Ian Bailey rounded out the Devils’ racers in the top 50 in 45th place. Bailey clocked a 48.43 on his first run before hiking on his second.

Vail Mountain school’s Charlie Grant claimed 27th for the Gore Rangers with a time of 1:33.84. Hunter Kreel finished in 49th.

Vail Christian was led by Corey Seemann in 20th.

Depth fuels Battle Mountain girls

In the girls’ race, Battle Mountain used its depth to finish in fourth in the team standings. The Huskies had 10 skiers finish in the top 50.

Annie Talbot led the charge in 17th in a combined time of 1:46.63. Liz Strong blistered the course on her second run in 53.27 to take 19th overall in a time of 1:48.40.

Not far behind were Anna Schmitt (22nd) and Rebecca Hughes (25th). Schmitt finished with a combined time of 1:50.20. Carrie Wild (33rd), Trisha Bruen (36th), Isabelle Courtois (39th), Rachel L’Heureux (40th), Piper McMillin (45th) and Alexandra Feeney (46th) were all in the top 50 for Battle Mountain.

Just like the boys, the Eagle Valley girls also took seventh in the team standings. Shanna Zoch (20th) led the Devils with a time of 1:48.61. Terrin Kinser (41st), Rachel Nagel (47th) and Logan Kinser (50th) were the next Eagle Valley finishers.

Vail Christian was led by Kira Geddes (76th) and McKenzie Curran (81st).
