EDWARDS — Battle Mountain ladies lacrosse and Steamboat Springs exchanged goals early on, but a balanced offensive attack from the Huskies proved to be too much to handle as the home team won, 20-4.
After Cassett Yeager scored a running jump shot for the Sailors five minutes into the game, tying the score at 3-3, Battle Mountain rattled off an 8-0 run in the next eight minutes.
“It’s so nice to be able to trust your team and know that if you’re going to pass it to them, they’re going to put it in the net — 100 percent,” said Ciara Heiden, a captain for the Huskies.
Lindsay Sierant led the charge for Battle Mountain with five goals, but eight Huskies ended up in the scoring column. Marti Schmidt, Maggie Berger and Julia Heid all added three goals apiece.
“Their skill level is very good and it’s hopefully inspiring for us to reach for that,” said Sailors coach Betsy Frick. “We hung with them in the beginning, but they have a very balanced attack. We’re having some injury issues and some other issues, so it was hard today.”

Lucy Shimek scored two goals for the Sailors and Yeager added the other two. Becky Brown got chances at the net, but she was denied by Huskies goalie Siena Miller.
With the win, Battle Mountain (7-1) only trails on Aspen in league standings, with a rematch against the Skiers slated for a week from today.
Steamboat Springs (5-6) wraps up the season against tough league opponents, but they’re continuing to build for the future.
“They’re doing better than they have since I’ve been a head coach,” said Emily Jaissle, Battle Mountain’s coach, “so it’s good to see their improvement in the program.”
The Huskies host Fruita on Thursday while the Sailors play Summit next in Steamboat on April 26. The Huskies-Sailors rematch is set for April 28 in Steamboat.
