Battle Mountain gets by Eagle Valley lacrosse
EDWARDS — Battle Mountain girls lacrosse is 2-0 after besting Eagle Valley, 11-5, on Thursday afternoon.
And the last time that happened would be never.
And so, while it’s still very early in the season, the Huskies are excited.
“It’s so awesome,” Huskies senior goalie Siena Miller said. “I’m so impressed with how our team has developed so quickly. It’s great that we are so far ahead in our season from where we normally are.”
While the Huskies were playing their second game of the season — they beat Cherokee Trail last week — the Devils looked good in their opener, trailing only 4-3 at halftime.

“We can definitely build on it,” Eagle Valley coach Stephanie Renzelman said. “We had an awesome first half. … The first half shows that we can definitely keep up with them. Now we know what we have to work on.”
Playing with fire
Battle Mountain built a 3-1 lead on tallies by Lindsay Sierant, Chloe Doctor and Natalie Berger. But the Devils had Lindsey Martinez, who scored two of her four to tie it at three.
Martinez led Eagle Valley in scoring last season as a sophomore, so the Mountain Conference will presumably be seeing a lot more of her in the future.
Sierant’s second put Battle Mountain into the lead at the half.
And the Huskies had a talk at intermission.
“We need to put more excitement into this game. We need to play our game with fire,” said Miller “Once they got that in their minds that this is our game and we can do this, that’s when they executed.”
And Battle Mountain took over from there. Haley Frischholz netted two, as did Sierant for four on the game. Berger got her second and Marti Schmidt added a marker.
“I think we were coming up with the possessions,” Huskies coach Emily Jaissle said. “We were connecting on the attack, moving the ball a little bit better.”
And when Eagle Valley (0-1) had chances in the second half, Miller shut the door. She’s pretty much the rock for the Huskies as the last line of defense and Thursday was no exception.
Eagle Valley has its home opener on Saturday against Grand Junction at 11 a.m. Battle Mountain is home for Summit County on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
