Battle Mountain spikers earn All-Colorado honors

EAGLE-VAIL – Battle Mountain proved that it was one of the best teams in Colorado at the state tournament last month.Now the Huskies can boast that they have some of the best players in the state.Crystin Rodrick, Britney Brown and Sofia Lindroth were recently named to the All-Colorado volleyball squad.”It’s great to see,” said Battle Mountain head coach Brian Doyon. “It really says how good the team was.”Rodrick was named to the first team by both the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post.”It’s a great honor for Battle Mountain players,” Rodrick said. “I think it’s a big motivator, and next year hopeully we can get four on the team.”Brown, who was named second team by the News and honorable mention by the Post, was at school when she found out about being named to the team.”I was in my AP World class, and they announced it,” Brown said. “I was shocked and had tears in my eyes.”Lindroth was named honorable mention by the News.Mountain to beatAlong with the Battle Mountain players, several spikers from other Western Slope teams were named to the team.”It really shows how tough our slope is,” Rodrick said.Doyon was happy with the team’s performance this year and glad there was proper recognition.”Last year we had a successful season, but it was tarnished by some problems,” he said. “This year we all had fun and got to enjoy the spoils of victory.”Also, Doyon said the wins and awards trickled down in the Battle Mountain program.”It’s great because it motivated some of the younger kids,” he said. “They look up to the older players and say they want to be as good as Crystin, Britney, Sofia, etc.”Sports Writer Ian Cropp can be reached at 949-0555, ext. 14631, or, Colorado
