Battle Mtn. edges Aspen in girls lacrosse thriller

ASPEN — Battle Mountain came from behind in the second half to beat Aspen, 12-11, in a girls lacrosse showdown on Thursday afternoon at Aspen School District Stadium.
The Huskies, who trailed 7-5 at halftime, potted seven goals in the second half while limiting Aspen to four goals behind the active goaltending by Battle Mountain senior Siena Miller.
Haley Frischholz scored five goals for Battle Mountain (9-1).
Maggie Berger and Lindsay Sierant scored two goals each in the Huskies’ win.

The Skiers, in the back-and-forth game, fell behind late when Battle Mountain collected consecutive goals from Julia Heid and Berger to lead 12-10 with 5:30 to play.
Aspen rallied with a goal from Kelsey Fitzgerald after she stole the ball. Her score pulled Aspen to 12-11 with 1:20 to play.
The Huskies’ defense, along with Miller, held on for the one-goal victory in the resort-rivalry game.
Fitzgerald scored three times for Aspen, as did teammate Mackenzie Miller.
Juliette Woodrow also scored three times for the Skiers.
Jordan Fox and Caroline Moriarty rounded out the scoring for the Aspen girls, 6-4.
The Aspen girls will play at Cherry Creek at 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Village, while the Huskies are at Steamboat Springs next week.
