Beaver Creek, Aspen considered for Val d’Isere back-up plan
ASPEN, Colorado – The International Ski Federation is looking at backup plans just in case the course in Val d’Isere, France, doesn’t have enough snow to host the men’s and women’s races next month.
FIS women’s race director Atle Skaardal said Friday night there’s only about a “30 percent chance” the venue will be ready in time for the events scheduled for Dec. 10-11.
An official decision is expected to be made Monday.
Skaardal said one solution could be to hold the events in either Aspen or Beaver Creek. Aspen is hosting women’s events this weekend and Beaver Creek will be the site of men’s races next weekend.
The U.S. Ski Team is scheduled to let FIS know Saturday if this contingency plan is even feasible, given the financial considerations.
