Beaver Creek hosts snowshoe race Sunday

BEAVER CREEK” The second race in the four-event Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series is Sunday at Beaver Creek’s Creekside Park.
The Beaver Creek Snowshoe Adventure Series features the “Dash For Cash,” an all out sprint, East-West 5K Quest recreational walk and run, the competitive Larkburger 10K race for adults, as well as a Kids K for participants 12 or younger.
The Kids K is free to kids accompanied by a parent. All snowshoeing activities get underway at 11 a.m.
“Fulfill your New Year’s resolution of getting fit and healthy by signing up for a day of snowshoeing,” said Amy Hornyak of Highline Sports and Entertainment. “Compete in the 10K or enjoy the outdoors with friends in the East West 5K Quest, either way I hope to see everyone at Beaver Creek on Sunday.”
Individual race entry is $25 in advance online at http://www.bcsnowshoe.com. Day-of registration is from 9-10:45 a.m. for $30 per person at the base of the slopeside escalators in Beaver Creek.
Nike and Atlas Snow-Shoe Company will provide limited free demos and basic instruction to participants prior to each race. They are available on a first-come first-serve basis.
A post-race party is at the Beaver Creek Village Plaza, adjacent to the ice skating rink with food and beverages for all participants, along with an awards ceremony and raffle. The top-three overall finishers in the 10K competition will win cash prizes, while the overall top three in the 5K Division will win merchandise prizes.
The series continues with the Jeremy Wright North American Championships Feb. 10, and the Snowshoe Shuffle March 2, benefiting cancer prevention, education and early detection.
The series itself benefits the Steadman Hawkins Research Foundation. All races begin promptly at 11 a.m.
