Brandstater’s poise impresses his Broncos teammates
When the Broncos selected Tom Brandstater in April’s NFL draft, they believed they had a tough-minded quarterback who had an NFL-worthy frame with some potential.
And whether or not Brandstater continues through the season on the active roster or eventually finds his way to the practice squad, his teammates said the rookie has already answered one of the more difficult questions for a young quarterback.
“He has poise, and you like to see that,” wide receiver Brandon Stokley said. “He was calm, he has the right approach, and he got some game action. He handled himself well in there.”
“He was putting the ball on the money to fellas. I’m excited for him,” rookie wide receiver Kenny McKinley said.
That poise in difficult situations likely earned Brandstater his roster spot.
Brandstater wasn’t expected to play much in the preseason, but he was the starter in the Thursday night finale because of injuries to Kyle Orton and Chris Simms. He had to run the offense in practice leading up to that game, take control of the huddle and play against first-team and second-team defenses.
He finished 16-of-30 for 187 yards and an interception.
