Breakaways down Pioneers 4-1

Daily Staff Report

Yet the Breakaways came out with their 14th-straight win, overcoming the feisty Pioneers 4-1.

Cindy Reynolds started it for Vail with a nifty wrap-around. Meanwhile, the defense was doing its thing with the pairings of Ali Wadey and Deb Davis as well as Tania Landauer and Jessica Backhus.

And, with Susanne Johnson moving up from the blueline to forward, the Breakaways started clicking on offense. In the second period, Karrisa Keltner lit the lamp on a breakaway. Alice Plain did the same with 3:39 left in the middle stanza and Vail was comfortably ahead 3-0.

DU put one on the board in the third when Kristina Wyatt answered on a helper from Reynolds.

Vail goalie Pat Lammer was her usual self, picking up the win between the pipes.

Vail (14-0) is next in action Sunday at 6 p.m. at Dobson against the Fort Collins Flames.
