Broncos sign DT Sam Adams
DENVER ” Sam Adams, a 350-pound defensive tackle and three-time Pro Bowl player, signed with the Denver Broncos after spending last season with Cincinnati.
Adams previously played for Buffalo, Oakland, Baltimore and Seattle. He won a Super Bowl ring with the Ravens after the 2000 season and played in the title game with Oakland two years later. He was a first-round pick of Seattle in 1994, the eighth overall choice in the draft.
Adams, who will turn 34 this month, said he wants to prove he is still competitive.
“There is a lot of jealousy out there and the so-called gurus have their opinions and we’re going to see how accurate their opinions are this year,” he told KRIV-TV in Houston, where he attended high school.
Adams is known as a run-stuffer but also has 44 career sacks, fourth among active defensive tackles. In 195 career regular-season games, he has started 166 times and recorded 463 tackles, including 326 solo; three interceptions for 62 yards; 37 pass breakups, 10 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.
He has 10 postseason starts with 26 tackles (17 solo), two sacks for nine yards, four pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Adams started all 16 games for the Bengals last year with 25 tackles, two sacks for eight yards and one pass breakup.
