BOSTON – Former Battle Mountain and Northeastern University volleyball captain and standout Britney Brown needs to make sure her passport is in order.

Brown will join a group of college stars and former players on a trip to China with the United States Developmental Team, and, upon her return in August, will head to Sweden, where she has signed a two-year contract with Lindesberg Volley.

“I feel very blessed that my dreams are coming true, and very lucky that I get to continue playing after college,” Brown said.

After a short training trip in Anaheim, Calif., Brown will be a part of one of two 12-player teams of current and former college players to depart for Beijing on July 1 for 10 days. While in China, the United States squad will participate in the second edition of China-USA Challenge Invitational. The team will play against the Chinese Junior Team as well as top Chinese collegiate and club teams.

“I am looking forward to playing with such talented athletes in China and experience all the history over there,” she added.

Upon her return from China in mid-July, the Edwards native will continue her training before departing in August for Sweden. Brown signed a two-year deal with the Swedish club team Lindesberg Volley on June 12. Lindesberg won its league last year and was invited to compete in the European Cup in 2012.

“I am so excited about making Sweden my new home in August. I hear such great things about (the country),” Brown said. “I’m very excited that I will be able to travel all over Europe and compete at such a high level.”

Brown played from 2007-10 at Northeastern, captaining the squad her senior season. Brown recently graduated with a degree in marketing. During her time at NU she played in 428 game, seventh most in program history. She has left her mark on the Northeastern record books, currently sitting at seventh all-time in kills (1149), eighth in total attempts (2826), fifth in assists (2289),- and tenth in service aces (113). She spent the 2011 season on Ken Nichols’ bench as a graduate assistant coach, and graduated this spring.

“I’m so thankful for the experience I had at Northeastern and can’t wait to continue my career in volleyball.”

Northeastern finished 21-6 last year, finishing second in the CAA with a mark of 11-3 in league play.

Before her tenure with the Northeastern Huskies, Brown played with the Battle Mountain ones, starting for the black-and-gold Huskies in 2005-06 as the setter and serving as co-captain with Crystin Rodrick. Battle Mountain made the 4A state tournament during both seasons, and won the school’s only state title in the sport in 2006 with a record of 30-1.
