LEXINGTON, Ky. – The awards season in Hollywood ended eight days ago with the Oscars.Awards season continues for Battle Mountain volleyball though. The American Volleyball Coaches Association put out its all-American team last week and it’s got a pair of Huskies – Britney Brown and Crystin Rodrick.

Brown and Rodrick are just two of 36 young ladies selected for this honor throughout the country. They are the lone representatives from the Centennial state and one of just four sets of teammates from around the country on the team.”When I first heard about this, it was overwhelming,” said Brown, the team’s setter who is off to Northeeastern in the fall. “It’s a great honor.”Rodrick, like Brown, in what has seemed to be an echo as members of the 4A state champions have received assorted honors in the last five months, said that all of these awards were a result of the team’s effort.

“It’s good, but you have to give the credit to the team and the coaches,” said Rodrick from Fort Collins, where she has already started her freshman year at Colorado State. “The coaches are the ones who taught us all the moves. The team helped push us throughout the season. You can’t give it to one or two players. It says something about the team not the individual.””The group was an extremely special group,” head coach Brian Doyon said. “They pushed each other, and they knew how to drive each other.”It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I was fortunate to have it this early in my career here, to have all these talented girls here all in one spot at one time. They all had a similar drive and have an ability to play at this level.”

Brown is also on the Prep Volleyball all-American Team, in addition to being named All-Colorado by the Rocky Mountain News and all-state by The Denver Post and the Rocky. Rodrick joined Brown on both of the metro daily’s all-state teams. In all, Brown, Rodrick, Doyon, Nicole Penwill, Devon Abbot and Sofia Lindroth won all-state honors after the Huskies captured their first state volleyball championship in November.
