The Vail Recreation District’s Athletic Club at the Westin Mountain Bike Race Series continues today featuring the Camp Hale Hup.

This is the sixth race of the seven-race series, which is presented by East West Resorts and the Vail Valley Medical Center.

During the race, riders will enjoy fast dirt roads and single track along the Continental Divide Trail with distances ranging from 2 miles for younger riders to 22 miles for more experienced riders.

The races will begin at 4:45 p.m. with the Larkburger Youth Series for riders ages 8 to 17 years old. All of the adult categories begin at 5:45 p.m. at one minute intervals.

Individual race entries costs $35 for adults and $15 for youth riders on race day and registration ends at 5:30 p.m., prior to the race start.

Directions to camp hale

The race start and registration area is located at the intersection of East Fork Rd. and Resolution Creek Rd., directly east of the Nova Guides Lodge. To get there from Interstate 70, take the Minturn exit and travel south on U.S. Highway 24.

The north entrance to Camp Hale is currently closed, so participants will need to access it via the main Camp Hale entrance at Camp Hale Spur 1B, just South of the Nova Guides Lodge.

Please do not park at Nova Guides or drive through their parking lot to access the race. Parking is in the 1B parking lot or on west side of Camp Hale 1 Rd. as directed by race staff.

There is no cell service at Camp Hale. In the event of inclement weather and/or dangerous trail conditions, the VRD will do its best to update the VRD Facebook page and website with the most current information should the race be postponed or rescheduled.

The after-party

The race will include an after-party at The Saloon in Minturn, with a free keg of beer provided by Bud Light for those 21 and older.

Prizes will presented to the top-three finishers of each category after each race, with series prizes awarded to the top finishers in each category at the end of the final mountain-bike race of the season. Raffle prize drawings also will be held.

Pedal Power, the official shop of the Camp Hale Hup, will be on site to provide neutral support for racers with last minute mechanical issues.
