Causal Bike Classic hits the road on Sunday

VAIL – The Sonnenalp of Vail Foundation is presenting its annual Casual Bicycle Classic Sunday,, a benefit ride for ECO Trails and the Eagle County Regional Trails System.Riders will take part in a 38-mile casual ride beginning in Breckenridge following the recreational path 10 miles to Frisco. Next, they will ride a creek-side, seven-mile, gradual climb to Copper Mountain, followed by five challenging miles to the Vail Pass summit. Finally, they will coast downhill, 16 miles to the Bully Ranch at the Sonnenalp Resort for a barbecue and prizes.More than 150 riders are expected to participate again this year. The emphasis on this ride is fun. As an option this year, interested cyclists can ride both directions (a total of 76 miles), leaving from the Sonnenalp Resort at 7:30 am. Pre-registration is required for riders wishing to ride both directions.Same day registration and check-in for the Casual Bicycle Classic begins at 10 a.m. in the Breckenridge Skier parking lot or at 8:45 a.m. at the Sonnenalp Resort of Vail, across from First Bank. A shuttle to Breckenridge will leave at 9:30 a.m. from the Sonnenalp. Shuttle service is available to the Vail Pass summit for those not interested in riding the uphill. A shuttle will be provided back to Breckenridge after the barbecue.Aid stations are available throughout the course.Pre-registration is $45 per adult, $35 for kids ages 7-14 years and kids 6 and under are free. Day of ride registration is $50 per adult and $40 per child. Registration includes transportation, T-shirt, refreshments on the course, a chance to win prizes and the barbecue.
