KILLINGTON, Vt. – Taylor Seaton finished third at the 2007 Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships halfpipe Thursday at Killington, Vt.

Seaton, who lives in Avon and skis with the Copper Freeride team, qualified third in the morning and then took bronze in the eight-skier afternoon finals.Ski & Snowboard Club Vail’s James Leonard took fourth, while teammate Tony Seibert was seventh.

“James went as big as I’ve ever seen him go on his first hit out of the pipe,” said Brian Baker, freestyle program director for SSCV. “He had really good amplitude and didn’t make many mistakes.”Seaton, who broke a binding in his qualifying run, had a solid first run in the finals, picking up a score of 41.2. On his second run, Seaton looked to move up but wasn’t able to land back-to-back 900s.

The Freestyle Championships continue today with singles moguls and then duals on Sunday, while Seaton heads to the Vermont Freeskiing Open for competition Sunday.Sports Writer Ian Cropp can be reached at 748-2935 or
